We’re midway through the second round and so far there haven’t been many early upsets. The early favorite to win it all was Novak Djokovic, and he hasn’t disappointed with a pair of relative easy wins in the first two rounds, beating Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 and then getting past Jarkko Neiminen 6-4, 6-2, 6-3.
A quick look at the men’s bracket reveals the other three players we circled based on recent history have also looked strong.
Andy Murray was listed as the next favorite after Djokovic to win it all with a +250 payout at 1vice.ag , and he too has advanced to the third round without losing a set. Roger Federer was our pick to make it to the Championship Game, and taking him early with a +550 payout would allow us to hedge him if he reaches the Final.
Rafael Nadal was the final player of our top four to watch despite his recent poor play resulting in an inflated 12:1 payout to hoist the trophy. He got past his first round match with ease and hasn’t yet finished his next match as of this writing.
On the women’s side there have been more notable upsets. Ninth ranked Carla Suarez Navarro lost badly 6-2, 6-0 in her first round match, while #3 Simona Halep was upset in three sets. Those familiar with Wimbledon betting (and betting on tennis in general) know that it’s typically a good idea to fade players immediately after pulling a big upset, so check out the Wimbledon betting lines often to see if there is good value fading these players in an obvious motivational letdown spot.
The favorite on the women’s side is Serena Williams, and she has been able to avoid the upset bug with a pair of 6-4, 6-1 victories in the first two rounds. With four of the top 12 players already bowing out of the tournament, her chances of winning are looking strong.
